Statement from County Executive McCoy on ESPN Article Covering the Aurora Games

August 22, 2019

“The inaugural Aurora Games in Albany County represent an historic moment – as gymnastics coach Valorie Kondos Field notes, ‘This event transcends sports.’ The games and attendant events provide a platform for the world to see champion female athletes, as well as an opportunity to hear their voices, focus on the issues affecting women and allow them to freely express their concerns on social injustices and broader inequities that have plagued the world of sports,” said Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy.

“I believe it’s all of our collective responsibility as a community to seize this powerful occasion by coming together to witness history being made this week. I encourage our partners in the media to help us spread the unique stories of these female trailblazers and their messages of equality, unity, reform and progress, by covering this monumental event over the next three days,” he continued.
