South End Run, Ride, Walk: Honoring Qazir Sutherland

September 26, 2018

Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy invites you to join the Albany County Department of Health, City of Albany, Capital Roots and other community partners as they promote ways to ride, bike and walk safely in neighborhoods to encourage safe community physical activity. It's in honor and celebration of Qazir Sutherland, a 7-year-old boy who was killed five years ago while crossing the street on his way home.

Participants will run, ride and walk from Ezra Prentice Apartments to the Albany County Helderberg-Hudson Rail Trail waterfall and back. There will be an opportunity to learn more about the new bicycle track planned for South Pearl Street to connect the Rail Trail and the Mohawk-Hudson Bike-Hike Trail. There will also be health information on eating well, physical activity and walking & bike safety.

This event will take place Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Ezra Prentice Homes, 625 South Pearl Street and supports the Albany County 2016-2018 Community Health Improvement Plan goal to create environments that support physical activity. Registration starts at 10:30am; walk step-off starts at 11:00am
