Statement from Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy on Oil Spill at the Port of Albany
August 20, 2014
"Today's oil spill is exactly why we need clear, immediate notification when such events take place. A failed piece of equipment cannot always be foreseen. Based on preliminary information, only a small amount of oil breached the secondary containment area on Global property. Prompt communication between the city and county enabled our firefighters and emergency management teams to be dispatched immediately. The DEC kept my office informed. Communication with the city, county and DEC today has been what it should be during such an incident. However, the county heard nothing directly from Global. Under proposed county legislation, that would have been a violation."
