County Executive Unveils Major Upgrades at Lawson Lake

July 07, 2018

Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy today unveiled three major infrastructure upgrades at Lawson Lake County Park that included a brand new basketball court, playground and a state-of-the-art amphitheater. He was joined by Sheriff Craig Apple, Sr. and the Boy Scouts of America to make the announcement.

“We really have come a long way since we reopened this park in 2013 and I think that’s clear to see today. These upgrades are just the latest in our efforts on behalf of the families of Albany County,” said County Executive McCoy. “Projects like this give our children the opportunities to learn and grow, opportunities they may never get elsewhere, and that is the mission of County government.”

The basketball court, playground and amphitheater were installed with a joint effort between the Albany County Departments of Public Works, Recreation and General Services. Funding for the playground was made possible thanks to a generous donation from Freihofer’s.

The latest enhancements come on the heels of other upgrades spearheaded by County Executive McCoy, including the new visitor center, parking lot, bathrooms, Lean-to Barn, guardrails, the recently renovated Waldman Lodge and other enhancement projects. All of which could not have been possible without the help of local unions, area Boy Scout troops and hundreds of volunteers.

The 420-acre park is open year-round and since 2013, it has been home to numerous festivals, summer camps and educational programs and offers children of all ages fun opportunities to hike, fish, canoe, birdwatch, picnic, cross country ski, snowshoe and more.
