Albany County Donates Body Armor to Schenectady County SPCA

October 31, 2017

At a news conference today at the offices of Tully Rinckey, Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy announced that the county will donate Kevlar vests to the Schenectady SPCA for use by peace officers in their work in the field. In total, 25 vests will be donated to the SPCA. This equipment had been utilized by the County Probation Department but since the warranties had expired the county had to purchase new equipment for probation officers. This provided the county the opportunity to donate the equipment to the SPCA.

“I am pleased that we can assist the SPCA officers as they carry out their duties,” said Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy. “I know that their work can be dangerous and that there can be uncertainty when officers go on a rescue call. It is my hope that this equipment can offer some comfort and protection.”

“We are extremely grateful to Albany County for their donation,” said SPCA Chief Greg Rinckey. “When our officers respond to a call, they can face potentially dangerous situations and it is important they have adequate equipment to protect themselves. Albany County’s continued support of our organization and their recognition of the need to keep our officers safe is very much appreciated.”

The Kevlar vests will provide the SPCA peace officers the same protection that police officers wear when they enter potentially dangerous situations, making these vests a necessary precaution and allow them to do their jobs with assurance that they will be protected from harm.
