Community to Honor Memory of Qazir Sutherland With South End Run, Ride, Walk

September 27, 2017

Join Albany County Executive Daniel P. Mc Coy, the Albany County Department of Health, the city of Albany, Capital Roots, and CDPHP Cycle! at a special event to promote ways to ride, bike and walk safely in city neighborhoods to encourage safe physical activity in memory of Qazir Sutherland, who died in 2013 while crossing the street on his way home.

Participants will run, ride or walk from the Ezra Prentice Homes to the Albany County Helderberg-Hudson Rail Trail waterfall and back. There will be a demo of the new bicycle track planned for South Pearl Street to connect the Rail Trail and the Mohawk-Hudson Bike-Hike Trail. There will also be health information on eating well, physical activity and walking and bicycle safety.

This special event will take place Saturday, September 30, at the Ezra Prentice Homes at 625 South Pearl Street. It is being held to support the county Community Health Improvement Plan goal to create environments that support physical activity. Registration starts at 10 a.m. The walk starts at 11 a.m.
