Statement From Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy on FDA Plan to Propose New Regulations for E—Cigarettes

April 24, 2014

“I commend the federal government for its determination that e-cigarettes need to be regulated. To date there has been no oversight of these products and it is clear that e-cigarettes are being used by minors. That is one of the many reasons I issued an Executive Order in February banning their use on County property.  It is important that the FDA take all measures needed to keep e-cigarettes away from children and provide guidelines on the sale of these products to the public. I am pleased that the FDA will require makers of these products to register with the agency and disclose how they are manufactured. While there may be some benefit to e-cigarettes for those trying to quit smoking, the consumer protections announced today are a big step toward keeping these products away from children.”
