Posted: Monday, December 9, 2019 1:12 PM

Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy will honor athletes at area high schools throughout the County as part of his “Week of Champions” tour. The autumn sports season proved to be a successful one for local schools as Guilderland’s varsity field hockey, the Voorheesville Boys varsity soccer, and both Bethlehem’s Girls varsity soccer and Girls varsity swimming and diving teams went on to big sectional titles.

Beginning tomorrow, the County Executive will personally visit each team to congratulate players and coaches whose athletic accomplishments merit recognition for achievement, dedication and excellence and serve as an inspiration to others throughout the region.

The schedule and locations for Champions’ Week are as follows:

Tuesday, December 10 at 7pm – Guilderland High School, Board of Education Meeting Room, 8 School Road, Guilderland, NY 12085
The week kicks off with the Board of Education meeting at the school where County Executive McCoy will meet with the Varsity Field Hockey Team after its first ever Section II, Class A Sectional win over No.1 seed Shenendehowa in a thrilling nail biter ending with a final score of 2-1.

Tuesday, December 17 at 12pm – Clayton A. Bouton High School, Performing Arts Center, 432 New Salem Rd, Voorheesville, NY 12186
The next stop on the tour will be to congratulate the Voorheesville Boys varsity soccer team, who took home its first Section II, Class C Sectional title since 2004 in its win over Lake George. Part of their success was thanks to 2019 Times Union Athlete of the Year, Ian Reeve.

Wednesday, December 18 at 7pm – Bethlehem Central High School, 700 Delaware Avenue, Delmar, NY 12054
The final stop of the Week of Champions will honor two Bethlehem Teams with hard fought Section II victories, at the Board of Education meeting. The Class AA Girls varsity soccer team captured the Sectional title for the second consecutive year after shutting out Niskayuna, 2-0, with the help of Times Union 2019 Athlete of the Year Claire Hutton. The Division I Girls varsity swimming and diving team took back its own Sectional title after eleven years with a win over both Shenendehowa and Niskayuna.
