County Executive Announces Annual Traffic Safety Awareness Show & Car Seat Check

Posted: Friday, September 13, 2019 9:55 AM

Children are the future. How can we expect them to fulfill their potential if we cannot correctly ensure their safety now? As car safety seats become better equipped to protect the lives of our children, the technology can only go so far if they are properly installed. At last year’s Traffic Safety Event, 85 car seats were inspected and alarmingly, only one was installed correctly and five had to be replaced due to damage, being too old, being recalled or other ways that left the child in harm’s way.

The Traffic Safety Awareness Show will be held at Crossgates Mall on Saturday, September 21 and Sunday, September 22 in the lower level during normal mall hours. The car seat check will run Saturday only in the overflow lot adjacent to JC Penney from 11am to 2pm.

Over the weekend, participants will be educated on the dangers that exist on the road and best practices for traffic and child passenger safety. The Albany County Department of Public Works Traffic Safety Program is sponsoring the event.
