New Name for the County Nursing Home Comes with New Website

Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy today took the public and news media on a tour of the ongoing renovations the Albany County Nursing Home while announcing the facility’s new name and a new website to match. Construction at “Shaker Place Rehabilitation and Nursing Center” will be complete next year and will feature state-of-the-art enhancements to improve daily life for residents and county employees alike.

The renovations include locating bedrooms on the first floor to make them more accessible for residents, the addition of single bedrooms for added privacy, expanded corridors and common areas and brand new country-styled kitchens. Other enhancements include new boilers, air conditioning and LED lights to make the facility more energy efficient, and “lift free” equipment to help county employees safely care for those in need of assistance.

“With these ongoing renovations, we are fundamentally changing the way we offer programs and services to our nursing home residents, and with that transformation comes a new name,” said County Executive McCoy. “By turning around the finances at Shaker Place, improving technology and launching a new website to better connect individuals to the available services, I’m proud to bring this facility into the 21st century, because our older residents, our veterans and our taxpayers deserve nothing less.”

“This facility already has so much to offer, from 24-hour nursing care to social services and nutrition programs, and I’m so proud of the incredible renovations taking place that will make the services and programs we have to offer better than ever before,” said Shaker Place Executive Director Larry Slatky. “Our seniors have contributed so much to our communities, they’ve raised families and paid taxes, and this project is just one way we’re giving back to them.”

The new website can be found here https://www.shakerplace.org/ and will allow current and future residents to be better connected with the resources available to them. Shaker Place offers a range of services including 24-hour nursing care; physical, occupational, respiratory, and speech therapies; nutritional programs; social services; recreational activities; clinic services; psychological services; staff physicians; spiritual care and programs; volunteer programs; and more.
