Darrell R. Duncan retired as Albany County Public Works commissioner on Jan. 6, 2017, and was appointed to the Albany County Legislature three days later. He represents District 38, which includes New Scotland and a section of Bethlehem.
As Albany County Public Works commissioner, Duncan managed a $14 million budget, approximately 100 employees and seven substations. He was responsible for maintaining 305 miles of county roads, 116 miles of state roadways and 77 bridges.
Before working for Albany County, Duncan won election 10 times to the position of New Scotland highway superintendent.
Duncan has been a member of the Voorheesville Fire Department for 36 years, the American Public Works Association for 29 years, the Albany County Highway Superintendents Association for 31 years and a charter member of the Sons of the American Legion for 34 years.
A lifelong resident of New Scotland, Duncan graduated from Clayton A. Bouton High School in Voorheesville, where he excelled as a baseball player. Duncan and his wife, Karen, have three boys, one daughter and one grandchild. In his spare time, Duncan pitches and plays infield in the Capital District Men’s Senior Baseball League.
