Joseph E. O'Brien (D)
Albany County Legislative District 25
Committee Assignments: Public Works and Mass Transit
Joseph E. O'Brien is serving his second term in the Albany County Legislature as a representative of the residents of the 25th Legislative District. Elected in November 2011, Joe's district includes parts of Loudonville and West Albany. Joe is a twenty year resident of the Town of Colonie and a proud father of one son, Brendan, who graduated from Shaker High School. Joe has been active in his community, where he helped coach at West Albany Little League and at Colonie Youth Basketball. Joe and his wife Mary Ellen are active members in the Greater Loudonville Association and Friends of the Pruyn House.
Joe is retired from the State of New York after 33 years of service. He was the Director of Operations for the Assembly. As Director, he oversaw many restoration projects including improved accessibility to the Assembly Chamber. Other areas of expertise include building management, planning and implementation of state projects and supervision of administrative departments.
Joe has been in the forefront on a number of issues including support for the Albany County nursing home and the revitalizing of the former Tobin First Prize meat packing plant. Whether the issue is jobs and the economy or being a watchdog for our tax dollars, Joe hopes to use his experience to serve his constituents. Keeping government transparent is high on Joe's agenda; he plans to send out newsletters on important topics and welcomes input on issues that affect his district and the County.
Joe has close ties to the community and a vested interest in local issues. His passion for the beautiful, historic Town of Colonie and his determination to fight for his residents is what made him seek public office.
Joe resides in Loudonville with his wife Mary Ellen and their son Brendan.
