Lawson Lake County Park

On September 11, 2014, Over 500 volunteers gathered together at Lawson Lake to help clean up and refurbish the park.

Located on the border of the Towns of Coeymans and New Scotland, this 420-acre park includes a lake, wetlands, forested upland, open fields, waterfalls and streams.  Fish found in lake include black crappie, large mouth bass, pickerel, and various sunfish. There are also many species of birds and excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing at and around the lake. A loop trail offers access for hiking and cross country skiing.

There are also two points of access for boating (with car top vessels only) and fishing.  One is at the west side of the lake and can be reached by taking the main entrance road to a drop-off point at the lake (no parking lot).  The other launching point on the east side of the lake can be accessed by parking your vehicle in the lot along Lawson Lake Road, and carrying your vessel down the path to the launching point.

Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy,Albany  County District Attorney P. David Soares and Albany County Sheriff Craig D. Apple Sr. welcome  the opportunity to familiarize you to the underused natural resource maintained in southern Albany County, the Lawson Lake County Park.

Once known as Camp Opportunities, the park has been reopened with the hope that it may bring forth new opportunities for the families of Albany County throughout the summer  months.   With an appreciation that there  remains more to do,and  an understanding that municipal resources are not unlimited, we are reaching out to the community for the assistance needed to restore Lawson Lake County Park to its original promise.
