Disposal of Used Syringes and Needles

The Albany County Department of Residential Health Care Facilities is providing disposal of used syringes and needles (sharps), for the community, such as for diabetes patients who use needles for insulin shots.

All sharps need to be in “approved” containers, meaning they must be in a ridged puncture resistant container with a cap. Approved containers would include bleach and/or laundry bottles, or approved sharps containers purchased at the local pharmacy. Milk jugs, milk cartons, plastic soda/juice bottles, coffee cans or glass containers are NOT allowed.

All sharps are to be brought to the Receiving Department of the Albany County Nursing Home in an approved container with the cap secure. Sharps will only be accepted on Thursdays, from 8:00am until noon .

If anyone has any questions regarding Community Sharps Disposal, please contact the IDC Nurse at (518) 869-2231x230, the Building Superintendent at x240 or the Assistant Director of Health Services at x406.
