Americans with Disabilities Act
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) establishes a federal prohibition of discrimination against persons with disabilities in employment and ensures equal access for persons with disabilities to public accommodations, public services transportation and telecommunications. The Division of Affirmative Action works in the best interest of people with disabilities to ensure equal access in public accommodations and employment.
Albany County is committed to increasing employment opportunities for people with disabilities. In accordance with NYS Civil Service Law (Section 55A), special provisions exist for hiring mentally or physically disabled individuals.
