Strategic Location of Albany County
Albany County's strategic location in the heart of New York's Tech Valley gives businesses easy access to 132 million people in the United States and Canada. Nearly half of all manufacturing facilities, skilled workers and retail sales in the two countries are within a single day’s shipping of the region.
Centrally located in the populous northeast corridor, Albany County is at the core of an expansive system of highways and waterways, bolstered by convenient rail and air service. The New York State Thruway connects the area with major economic centers like Buffalo, New York City and Boston, Mass., and the Adirondack Northway provides access to Montreal, Canada and connects with the Canadian Highway system.

Albany International Airport
The newly renovated Albany International Airport, operated by the Albany County Airport Authority is located just seven miles west of the capital city. The $158 million capital redevelopment project included a parking garage, 230,000 square foot terminal, air traffic tower and cargo facility at the 1,000 acre airport, where more than 100 flights depart each day for major hubs. A dozen major commercial airlines provide service to Albany International, which functions as the major air center for the Capital Region, northeastern New York and western New England.
The Port of Albany
For more than three centuries, the Port of Albany has been a transportation hub, serving as a key connector with the region’s roadways, canals and rail lines. Located on the Upper Hudson River, which feeds into New York's extensive canal system, the Port of Albany can accommodate ships up to 750 feet long and 110 feet wide.
Rensselaer Train Station
Just across the Hudson River from Albany, the Amtrak station in Rensselaer is among the busiest in the nation. Five Amtrak trains serve the local station, transporting travelers to Vermont, the Adirondack Mountains, Niagara Falls, and beyond. With a dozen daily round trips to New York City, and travel time of just two hours, the Empire Service line is custom made for commuters and vacationers alike.
