Do You Suspect Medicaid Provider Fraud? Call the Social Services Fraud Hotline to Report Your Concerns

County residents can call (518) 447-7380 with suspicions about Medicaid providers

Albany County Executive Mike Breslin has announced a commitment of resources to investigate Medicaid provider fraud, abuse and waste. Local Social Services agencies can be granted authority by the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) to review the books of Medicaid health care providers under a memorandum of understanding (MOU) being negotiated in conjunction with the New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC). As part of that initiative, residents can now use the Albany County's Social Services Fraud Hotline, (518) 447-7380, to report concerns or suspicions about Medicaid providers.

The Social Services Fraud Hotline was initially created in September of 1995 by Breslin to target individuals who were fraudulently receiving benefits from the Social Services Department. Since that time, $3.7 million was recovered from individuals who had illegally received benefits and the County avoided spending an estimated $95 million due to efforts of the Fraud Investigation and Recovery Unit.

“Social Services fraud will not be tolerated in Albany County,” said Breslin. “Since 1995, I have made it a priority to target individuals who use the system for their own personal gain. I am now committed to pursuing Medicaid providers that are doing the same thing. I am asking for the assistance of residents in this endeavor. If anyone is suspicious of someone misusing the system, I encourage them to contact the Fraud Hotline at (518) 447-7380.”
