County Health Department Issues Alert About Rabid Goat

6/7/2017 4:47:24 PM

Albany County’s Department of Health has been notified that a goat, housed at the Radix Ecological Sustainability Center located at 153 Grand Street, Albany New York, was found to be rabid. The animal has been euthanized and is no longer a risk.

Rabies is a viral disease that is transmitted when the virus, via saliva, is introduced though open cuts in skin or mucus membranes. Rabies is not transmitted through petting or touching an animal. Because rabies can be fatal, members of the public who visited the center and had physical contact with goats between May 23 and June 6 should contact the Albany County Department of Health to determine if they may need treatment. The number to call is 447-4620.
