David R. Torncella Jr., US Navy


David R. Torncello Jr. was born on March 8, 1926 in Bethlehem, PA. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served as a Seamen First Class.

David served in the Aviation Operations unit at the Naval Air Station in Alameda, California, earning the American Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. When he returned home, David graduated from Siena College. For over 30 years he was an industrial engineer and the Director of Human Relations for Allegheny Ludlum Steel. Upon retiring at Allegheny Ludlum, he accepted the position of Assistant General Manager for the City of Watervliet, and he was a member of the Watervliet Elks Lodge #1500, a Post Commander of the Maplewood American Legion Post #1615, a parishioner of St. Basils Russian Orthodox Church, a College and High School basketball referee, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Watervliet Civic Center. He loved to travel, golf, ski and do activities with his family.

David R. Torncello Jr. was known as a caring individual to community, and a courageous soldier to our county.
