Economic Development

It is an exciting time to be doing business in Albany County. There are myriad opportunities and economic development initiatives available to create an environment that is conducive to business expansion and job growth. 

The County participates in business attraction and retention efforts which work within the overall economic development framework of the entire County and strives to address the needs of current and prospective Albany County employers. 

We also have ongoing efforts to identify and promote properties suitable for economic development.

Incentive Programs

Albany County Microenterprise Grant Program: Provides training and financial assistance to entrepreneurs, start-up businesses, and relatively new businesses. The program is especially interested in helping entrepreneurs or business-owners with low to moderate income, veterans, high-tech businesses, rural businesses, and essential neighborhood services. Learn more

Empire Zones [program closed to new entrants]: Existing certified businesses must continue to submit Business Annual Reports and local Zone Administrative Boards are still responsible for receiving and processing them. Visit the NYS Empire State Development website for more infomation

Excelsior Jobs Program: Tax credits are available for strategic businesses such as high tech, bio-tech, clean-tech and manufacturing that create jobs or make significant capital investments. Learn more

Economic Development Partners: Browse a list of partner agencies that provide low-interest financing, technical assistance or workforce training. Learn more

Industrial Development Agencies: Industrial Development Agencies (IDAs) promote and assist with business development to advance the economic welfare of the communities they serve. IDAs are public benefit corporations and can provide financial assistance. Learn more
