Department of Social Services

The Albany County Department of Social Services is responsible for addressing the social service needs of the poor and the near poor, as well as those who are unable to care for and protect themselves, while at the same time upholding the laws that govern the Department.

It is our mission to improve the quality of life in Albany County by helping people to help themselves and to help those incapable of acting on their own behalf. We do this by offering a broad range of protective, preventative, social and financial services. It is our hope that by offering citizens employment and training services, child support services and effective case management, they will be able to leave the Public Assistance rolls and move to independence.

Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP)

HEAP can often help people who are confronted with heat-related emergencies, such as a lack of fuel, a utility shut-off, or inoperable/unsafe heating equipment. Learn more »
