The Albany County Correctional Facility constructed in 1931, is located on Albany Shaker Road in the Town of Colonie, provides detention for arrested individuals as ordered by the courts within the County. These Courts include Local Justice Courts, Superior Courts and Federal Courts.
The Correctional Facility is one of the largest County Correctional Facilities in the State of New York. The Facility has a maximum of 1043 beds, providing custody for local, state and federal prisoners. The current staff of 420 for both sworn officers and civilians maintains the day-to-day operations of the Facility. During the past year, over 7000 prisoners were admitted to the Facility. The average daily population has exceeded 800 inmates over the past year.

Incoming Prisoner Correspondence
Effective July 22, 2019 all incoming prisoner correspondence (other than privileged
correspondence - legal mail) is to be addressed to:

All prisoner correspondence to this location will be processed there being opened and inspected
solely to ensure the absence of contraband. It will then be scanned and made available on the
facility tablet to the individual prisoner it was intended for, accessible by an individual account
created by the prisoner.
Any mail received at the Correctional Facility postmarked July 22, 2019 or later will be returned to
sender.
